SCHOOL VISITS
From engaging assemblies to online read-alouds, Derek's work has reached tens of millions of kids around the world. He brings stories, experiments, wild ideas, and creative challenges to life, giving students plenty to laugh about, think about, and try for themselves.
This presentation explores the ingredients of both friendship and “enemyship” in a unique and entertaining way. It includes a reading of the story “Enemy Pie”, a brief discussion about friends and enemies and a super fun experiment involving some crazy ingredients. This is a student favorite! Presentation: 50-55 minutes, maximum 110 students, grades K-2.
Let’s pull back the curtain on the creative process! Using Aristotle’s story structure as a map, we’ll explore how we’re the heroes in our own life stories. Through examples from my own life, including writing a book and chasing a skateboarding world record, I’ll show students that story mechanics aren’t just for books. We’ll explore how a clear goal, a little imagination, and steady perseverance can turn any wild idea into reality, proving that every student is the hero of their own life story.
50–55 minutes · Grades 3–6Some examples include The Villain Factory, The Joke Machine, Superpower Sentences, Atomic Writing, Character Building, and World Building. Schools can choose the adventures that fit their students best.

Schools can choose from tracks such as World Building, the Idea Factory, Joke Writing, Pick Six, or a custom track built around their own interests.
